It truly amazes me when I hear about medium-sized businesses - and even some Fortune 1000 outfits - that are still operating their websites without a content management system (a.k.a. “CMS”).Especially, when you consider that many small business and garage outfits have already made the shift.

Years ago, when I worked for CBS Interactive, I had a particular marketing manager who would often ask me what we could do to prevent folks from linking to our sites. And of course, my answer was always “nothing.”
First off, you can’t control who links to you from an external sources. Secondly, aside from trademark or copyright issues, why would you devote resources to prevent folks from giving you an unsolicited inbound link - the holy grail of SEO?

In a matter of weeks, Google has put the maneuvers on two of their largest rivals in terms of market share. Their first target was user-generated-content giant Wikipedia, which garnered a large percentage of their traffic from Google searches. Their second, much larger target is Microsoft.
