Google Analytics Tips & Tricks - Exporting More Than 500 Results

March 19, 2009 – 2:46 pm by Dan Cristo

One of the frustrating limitation of Google Analytics is the inability to export more then 500 results for any given report. Here is a quick little work around:

1) Within Google Analytics, create a report that has more than 500 results.

2) Add a parameter at the end of the URL: The parameter is “&limit=<number you want to export>”. So an example would be: &limit=1000 or &limit=1500

Let me break down the parameter…

  • ” &” indicates that a new parameter is being added to the URL
  • “limit” is the name of the parameter
  • “=1000″ is the quantity of results you want to export

3) Hit “enter” or “go” in your browser to activate the parameter (the page may not look like it changed, because it loads so quickly).

4) Export your results as you normally would.

When you open up your results, you should see the entire set of results, not just 500.

  3. Thanks Mike! It’s made the rounds before, but Dan did a great job of presenting it in a visual format.

@bhagawat - You’re welcome. Sure beats exporting the data multiple times into Excel!

  11. Hi folks,

When i append &limit=1000 nothing changes in my GA :-(

    Help me!!

By Human on Aug 26, 2009

  12. Sorry to hear that, Human! Make sure to follow the steps in exact order. It’s a bit tricky, but if you keep at it, you’ll figure out how to complete the export (it took us quite a few tries to get the hang of it internally).

  13. I found this tip months ago and forgot to bookmark it. Then tonight I needed to export over 500 and did a search and you were the first result.

Excellent tip, it works every time and is awesome!

@Human - the results in GA don’t change beyond 500, BUT when you export you get the full amount you set in your limit.

    Again, thanks for the tip!

  15. aha! you need to click ‘CSV’ (not the option that says ‘CSV for Excel’), as explained here: http://google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=159501
